10 Ways to Regain Focus When You’re Doing an Online Job
Posted by Guest Author on 2/2/2012 to Productivity

Working from home is a joy, but it’s not without downsides as well. Sometimes, the familiarity of the routine can get the best of you – and bog down your focus at work. Here are tips on how you can improve focus and increase your performance – even without getting out of the house.

1.    Write out a daily task plan

Making a list of your projects or assignment for the day helps you   keep on track. By writing down your tasks, you are allowing yourself to set some goals which you should meet that day. This helps you get more work done with the amount of time you have.

2.    Remove clutter

A clean desk can do a lot in terms of bringing focus. When your desk is a mess, so too will your mind. This makes you unable to think properly as the chaotic sight influences your performance. Clean out your desk, throw the unnecessary papers and organize your files. This way, you can easily reach for the things you might be needing, without spending too much time on finding them instead. If all your important files can be found in your computer, organize that as well. Make shortcuts to those programs or document you are always using.

3.    Change out of your pajamas

The luxury of working at home comes with no having to wake up early or working only at times most convenient for you. Sometimes, people doing online jobs jump out of bed and into their computer chair in their pajamas. This only makes you lose focus, as it loses the feel of a structured working time. Being in your bedclothes will make you feel as if you can sleep back in anytime, and this is dangerous. Try to shower and dress in clean, presentable clothes, as if you were going out. The freshness will make you feel more structured and focused with your job.

4.    Listen to the right types of music

Depending on your task, listening to the right types of musing will prevent you from losing interest in what you’re doing. If the task involves highly analytical skills, many people would prefer to be in complete silence. In this case, turn of the TV or put your cellphone in silent mode. If the task is light, you can listen to some light disco music to up your happy hormones and keep you going through your work.

5.    Get a good chair

Comfort should be your utmost priority. Since you will be spending the day sitting down in front of your PC, why not invest in a chair that won’t strain your back muscles? Be careful of too much comfort though – you don’t want to fall asleep while working.

6.    Take on more challenging tasks

The routine of a job is a killer – and this is why many people find themselves losing interest in their work. One way to fight this is by accepting more tasks. If you’re an article writer, try to up that notch by learning about online graphics. Take on more challenging roles, and you’ll find yourself stoked for your next projects.

7.    Limit personal calls or responding to personal e-mails

Personal calls cannot be avoided. But once you do entertain these calls, try to limit the amount of time you spend on it. The longer you do, the more you wouldn’t want to get back to work.

8.    Stretch every now and then

Having a good stretch can revitalize your muscles and increase oxygenation to your brain. This can help you prevent sluggishness while working long hours on the computer. Try to walk around or do little stretching techniques with your eyes, toes, arms, and legs. You’ll fell revitalized and much more focused after.

9.    Eat a good meal

Skipping meals is so easy when you’re working. But having a good meal can provide the nourishment your body needs to take on your online task. If you don’t have the time to do so, then eat your meal at your desk. At least you’ll be providing fuel to your brain.

10.  Set a reward for yourself

One trick for your to speed up and finish those tasks in time is when you set a reward for yourself. Planning a movie date with your family only after you get to finish those 10 due articles will help you meet your goals. Have something to look forward to – you’ll end up being more productive than ever.
