Dr. Joan Borysenko is one of the leading experts in the field of mind/body connection. Her pioneering work in integrative medicine is a foundation of a health-care revolution which recognizes the spiritual dimensions of life as an integral part of medical treatment. Dr. Joan Borysenko’s thoughts are a bridge between faith and reason, soul and science. She frequently speaks about her findings in various settings such as hospices, hospitals, boardrooms, churches or conference venues. Her speeches and writings are very inspiring, as she combines the latest research findings with her faith in a humorous and authentic way.

Dr. Borysenko graduated magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College in 1967. She earned her doctorate in Medical Sciences from the Harvard Medical School, and completed post-doctoral training in cancer cell biology. She started teaching at the Tufts University College of Medicine in Boston. Her father died in cancer, and this was a turning point in her research: she became more interested in the person than in the disease. She completed a second postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School in the field of behavioral medicine. Her research led to the introduction of meditation into medicine. This discovery led to her third postdoctoral fellowship in psychoneuroimmunology.

She wrote Minding the Body, Mending the Mind in 1987, based on her clinical experience and research. The book became a bestseller, selling 400,000 copies. She also co-founded a Mind/Body clinic with Dr. Benson and Dr. Ilan Kutz, becoming licensed as a psychologist. She was also appointed instructor in medicine at the Harvard Medical School. She authored or co-authored 13 other books and numerous audio and video programs, including the Public Television special Inner Peace for Busy People. She is also the Director of The Claritas Institute Interspiritual Mentor Training Program and the Founding Partner of Mind/Body Health Sciences, LLC located in Boulder, Colorado.
